Too diluted even for a noob. It was clear that they wanted to appeal to a more informal player base. This didn't work for players who were not casual.
It's not a win-win situation to developers, according to me. Some players (like you) are addicted to the completely fake sense of authority, mastery and the uniqueness you gained from making points for exactly those same areas in the same way as everyone else. They feel depressed, confused and constrained if you reduce it down to only viable sensible, balanced options without a correct answer.
